A Fun Run Weekend♡

Happy Monday everyone!
This weekend we took part in the 5k the Hard Way and cannot express how thrilling it was for all skill levels.
5k the Hard Way is an obstacle run which takes you through a vast array of landscaping.  You are guaranteed to get muddy and wet, but this race was my personal favorite so far. At every obstacle one had the option of going the "hard way" or "easy way", therefore if the obstacle was not appealing to you for any reason you simply didn't have to do it. For any of you that would love to run a race but are nervous to do so, I highly encourage and suggest this to be your first! Here are a few pictures of the event.

FITness Friday Leg Burner Workout

Hey everyone!

Hope your week has flown by up to this point and we are all excited for the weekend, I sure know I am. Hopefully by the time the next blog roles around the Skinner household will have a new addition....NO not a baby, that would have been one quick growing infant, but rather a puppy. :) Anyways, lets get to work!

As I'm sure many of you are, we are worried about all that "jiggle" in our lower body. Regardless of what size you are, somehow the mirror always tells us nasty jokes about all our "problem areas". Therefore let's work those legs today with no equipment and see how you feel at the end.

Leg Burner Workout:

1.)  30 Jump Squats or Squats
2.)  20 Front Lunges
3.)  20 Back Lunges
4.)  50 Jumping Jacks
5.) 40 Calf Raises
Repeat 3x's

Soon we will all have legs like Carrie!

Phase TWO

As a month nearly passes by in our new place in Fremont USA, one can see the changes already happening in the gym. For those of you that don't know FITness Into A Lifestyle is an in home personal training business that I (Gabby) am trying to finalize before winter strikes. As you can see in the picture we have a wide realm of equipment that can be used for a variety of skill levels. For cardio we have a treadmill and elliptical, along with stairs that the house provides. :) For strength training we currently have a bench and full set of weights, as well as a wide range of dumbbells and a sled. All of these things can be used to transform your body, then I will provide the coaching, the correct workouts and much more to help push you to meet your goals. Feel free to contact me if your are interested in viewing the facility and/or for your free consultation to determine if personal training would be right for you.

Quick and Easy Breakfast Smoothie

Hey Everyone!

Happy Monday to you all. I hope you all are enjoying the football season as much as I am. Nothing says the word Fall better than some football! As we all look back at our weekend we can be saying "OOOoo I did not eat very well at the party" or "Ya I totally rocked my weekend diet better than usual!" Whatever the case may be, keeping our diet healthy on the weekdays is where most of us find our greatest success. Therefore, as Monday morning generally creeps up on us way too quickly, we can be thinking what kind of healthy quick meal can I have for breakfast to keep me full enough till the noon hour or longer.

For myself I have tried many things, but continue to bounce back and forth between two options, homemade fruit smoothies or oatmeal. This particular week happens to be smoothie week, so I wanted to share this low calorie meal with you all today! As anything, there are many different variation recipes out there that we can all attempt to try or follow, but I tend to favor this one I found a few years ago and have used ever since.

*All of these items can go directly into a blender

   -1 cup almond milk
-1 cup fruit of choice (if out of season or enjoy a more frozen drink use no sugar added frozen fruit)
-6 oz low fat yogurt of choice
   - OPTIONAL: -extra added ice
-raw oats (if added will need another 1/4 cup of milk)

Turn on the blender full speed and your meal will be ready in no time. Roughly speaking this meal will be a total of 210 calories without the raw oats. What a great easy way to start you mornings! Enjoy!

Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter

Let's face it, fall is among us. Although the weather does not feel that way, cold weather will be striking faster than we know it. As this weather change occurs we as humans begin to hibernate along with the rest of the animals. What do I mean? Well we start to become home bodies and doing anything the things we loved to do in the warmer months can become a chore. Many take the colder months off for lots of reasons, maybe because you can wear clothes to cover up those "problem areas" or maybe the colder months make you depressed so you cope with that by eating. I tend to do a little of both of those things from time to time, but why don't we use those seasons to get into better than ever shape for the spring and summer months. Exercise to some is only seen through those external benefits that we can see with our naked eye. What one always forgets or does not know is that exercise can aid in so many issues that we tend to run into when in these colder months. Here is my challenge to you, use this fall and winter as months to better you rather than fall behind in your healthy lifestyle. Once we do that the spring and summer will be so much easier to get back into a "healthy feel good" you, you've been missing!

Examples of Fall physical activity:
*Racking Leaves
*Walks to enjoy the color changing on the leaves
*Become a part of a gym or personal training group to allow for indoor workouts

Wellness In The Workplace

It's been awhile, so why not another new spin on the blog! Two weeks ago I began my last semester at UNO placing me at my internship at Holmes Murphy. Within this company I am getting the great opportunity to view wellness in the eyes of a workplace. As American's we work the daily grind week after week, but are you really gaining something there besides benefits and a paycheck? Too many companies have not grabbed a hold of making sure their employees are happy. Since we are spending 8 hours of our day here this becomes very important to our overall health individually as well.

Here are a few helpful tips to make your work place more enjoyable:

1.) Take sporadic breaks from your chair and computer to take a walk around the office
2.) Pack a healthy lunch with brain and fulfilling food (ex: chicken salad, fresh vegetables or fruits)
3.) Fill your work space with things that enhance your mood (ex: pictures of children, plants, bright colors)
4.) Partake in the wellness committee (don't have one? why not starting one!)

Unfortunately the wellness done at your work place is much more difficult to control, but there are always those aspects that you can control. Studies have shown that when employees are healthier or practicing a healthy lifestyle their mood, work quality and quantity will all increase, overall making it a better workplace for all employees!
