How I Prepare for the Week!

Every week it appears that I add yet another thing onto my "plate", just the hypothetical one that is. Indeed, the growth of the business and my new position challenges are great feelings, but it adds continual stress and planning ahead is a must, especially in the kitchen. I begin by setting goals for Jake and myself. Goals like we will only eat out one time per week by preparing meals ahead of time. In order to accomplish our goals, here is what we are doing to eliminate drive-thrus, freezer, high fat, and unbalanced meals.

1. Preparing in advance

Sunday has become designated cooking day. Making meals for the entire week and placing them in microwave safe and ready to go containers has made morning/evening rushes much easier. In the fridge this week is fat free jell-o, grapes, oranges, diced lettuce, grilled chicken, whole rice, and 95% taco meat.

2. Taking homemade lunches
It has become a way of our world to go out for lunch 365 days a year. What people don't realize is how many calories and money they would be saving if they simply brought their own! Stay tuned for today's lunch choice posting on Facebook.  :)

3. Waiting till the end of the week to eat out
We have found that regardless of when we eat out during the week, it is guaranteed that we will want a date night or quick meal over the weekend. Therefore, by leaving this "treat" as a reward for completing the week we have eliminated a great number of times we eat out in a week's time.

4. Starting the healthy choices at the store

By filling your cart full of healthy foods you simply cannot go wrong. We have the old faithfuls such as light yogurt, fiber cereal, chicken, and fat free milk, but make sure you educate yourself on how to read a nutrition label and what the healthier options are. With this knowledge, eating a balanced diet becomes much easier, while making your choices at the store much smarter.
